Frequently Asked Questions
The relationship between client and therapist is an important part of the therapy process and therefore, it makes sense that you would want to explore whether a particular therapist is a good fit for you.
When deciding if a therapist is a good fit for you, it can be helpful to consider if that person specializes in working with some of the concerns you are looking to address, someone you feel comfortable with, and that you believe can be helpful and supportive to you.
If you think I might be a good fit for you, you can use this link to set up a free 15 minute
initial phone consultation where I can learn about what is leading you to seek therapy at
this time, tell you about myself and my practice, and answer questions that you might
have.
How do I know if a therapist is a good fit for me?
Confidentiality between a therapist and a client is one of the most important components to the therapeutic relationship. Before starting therapy, you will be given an “informed consent” form, which explains that what you discuss in session, will not be shared with anyone, unless you request to sign a Release of Information form for a loved one, medical provider, etc.
State law & professional ethics require therapists to maintain confidentiality except for in the following situations:
-
Suspected past or present abuse or neglect of children and elders must be reported to the authorities, including Child Protective Services and law enforcement, based on information provided by the client or collateral sources.
-
If the therapist has reason to suspect the client is seriously in danger of harming him/herself or has threatened to harm another person.
Will what I talk about in therapy remain confidential?
The length of therapy can vary based on what a person is seeking therapy for as well as their personal goals. The length of treatment is typically determined mutually between client and therapist. If you have specific questions about length of therapy based on your personal concerns and goals, an initial phone consultation can be a helpful way of gaining more insight into this question.
How long do I need to be in therapy?
Therapy can help you to better understand how the mind works and how our experiences shape us. Therapy can be a powerful tool for improving mental health, emotional well being, and quality of life. Part of the process of therapy involves exploring thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and experiences that may cause distress and hinder personal growth and healing.
How can therapy help me?
I offer both in person and telehealth sessions, in order to accommodate what a client thinks is the best option for them.
Do you provide telehealth and/or in person sessions?
During an initial session I will continue to get to know you, learn about some of your life experiences, and explore goals for treatment and ways that I can best support you. I look forward to working with you!
